What if I can’t stretch?

Feldenkrais isn’t about stretching or strengthening muscles; it is about movement control. By influencing the motor control of your muscles, you can influence their length or action. When you learn how to use more of yourselves, you can distribute your effort and actions, making your movements more efficient, easier and possible.

Should I wait till I feel better before I come to class?

No. The Feldenkrais Method® can assist in the early stages of acute back pain or following surgery as the approach is very gentle and individually tailored. All movements are kept in your available comfortable range, suitable if you are experiencing pain or discomfort.

Does it hurt?

No. The wonderful thing about the Feldenkrais Method® is that it is about exploring learning strategies by sensing more about your movements. If you have difficulty with one side, you can work with the other side. If you can’t lie down, you can sit. And even if nothing moves, you can work with your imagination, creating new neural links that can improve your quality of life.

How old does my baby need to start working with DonnaRose?

For parents with concerns about their baby’s development and interactions, introducing Feldenkrais movement lessons at any age in childhood is beneficial.

Even babies and young children can face limitations in their emotional, behavioural or movement/coordination/ balance development. We help you to help your child develop.

Early intervention is helpful, and individual sessions are specifically recommended for any babies or children with diagnoses in order to improve
long-term outcomes.

Usually, any time after 12 weeks is a valuable time to assess and explore a baby’s movements. Personalised, one-on-one sessions are particularly helpful. Collaborating closely with parents, answering your questions or concerns regarding your child’s development supports your child’s ongoing development between sessions. These sessions take place in a private clinic room tailored to suit the needs of children with various sensorimotor challenges.

I’m a performer. Can Feldenkrais improve my performance?

There is always room for improvement. You can learn to do what you already do well with more ease, less effort, with energy left over to go even further.

Many of Feldenkrais’ most prominent adherents are professionals who strive to be their best and include the likes of Yehudi Menuhin, Martina Navratilova, Whoopi Goldberg, Pat Cash, Neil Young. Weight lifters find the weights seem lighter, tennis players golfers find their swing more effortless, runners go further. Performing artists feel they can dance or play the night away and have more expressive possibilities in their repertoire.

I’m in a wheelchair. Can Feldenkrais help me?

This is best discussed in a complimentary phone consultation. Everyone has different skills in the ability to move and attend to their movements, as well as different reasons for using supportive equipment like wheelchairs.

Can I do one-to-one classes online?

Yes. You can attend group classes and/or ‘One-to-One’ sessions using appropriate technology devices. A complimentary phone call would be helpful to figure out the best approach for you.

Can I do occasional group classes online?

It is possible. However, the best results come from attending a series of movement lessons – either group classes or private sessions.

Imagine if you wanted to learn how to do ballroom or salsa dancing, but you show up to a class without any experience and without a dance partner. Attending a random class here and there would not give you the experience or skills to dance. A package of lessons is available, at a reduced rate and offers the richest experience for incorporating Feldenkrais into your health and wellbeing regime.

Client Review

I went from having chronic pain from an old injury to being more
aware of my everyday movements and being able to reduce this pain.
I have incorporated this into my other fitness and strength
exercises to get an amazing outcome.
