About The Feldenkrais Method®

Supporting your wellbeing through movement

The Feldenkrais Method® Australia

A complete brain-body and movement process

The Feldenkrais Method®, developed by Dr Moshe Feldenkrais, is a revolutionary and remarkable approach to exploring and improving human movement and function. Based on the brain’s instinctive capacity to learn and the potential for lifelong development, refinement and growth. Dr Feldenkrais believed that, whereas the body and mind are an inseparable whole, the improvement of physical functioning through movement influences not only physical capabilities but affects emotional and intellectual capabilities and the entire personality.

The body pattern of anxiety, a term coined by Dr Feldenkrais, describes the connection between behavior and the body’s expression of anxiety. Tension and anxiety cause a chain of physical reactions, such as muscle cramps, holding the breath, accelerated pulse rate, and increased perspiration. These affect posture and movement.

The Feldenkrais Method enriches your capability to cope with many situations. You can reclaim efficient functioning by reorganising your movement through being more aware and by asking yourself, “How do I move?” and “How do I perform even the simplest tasks?”

”Feldenkrais work is the most sophisticated and effective method I have seen for the prevention and reversal of deterioration of function”
– Margret Mead

“We do not achieve… by repetition, muscular exercising or by increasing speed and force, but by widening and refining the cerebral control of the muscle range”
– Moshe Feldenkrais D.Sc, The Potent Self

Why is a Certified Practitioner important for
your wellbeing?

What is Certification?

The accredited Feldenkrais Professional Training Program reassures you that you are in well-qualified hands. Our certification mark (CFP) recognises a graduate of an accredited training program, allowing them to use the registered trademarks: ‘Feldenkrais Method®’ and ‘Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner®’.

To maintain CFP recognition, a practitioner needs 30 hours of Continuing Education activities during the previous 12 months.

The Benefits?

Certification establishes a group of guaranteed baseline quality assured graduates of an accredited Feldenkrais Professional Training Program (FPTP).

It provides a recognised insignia by which fully certified practitioners may be identifiable. Further, it offers an avenue for removing ‘bogus’ practitioners. It also provides a pool of practitioners who have a measured track record of attending continuing upskilling and education.

Why is CFP important to you?

It helps to reassure you that you are in well-qualified hands. Our CFP logo recognises me as a bona fide Feldenkrais Practitioner.

The CFP trademark makes a distinction between me and ‘bogus’ practitioners, and as such is a reassurance to you as a client that I am an accountable service provider. People who purport to be a trained Feldenkrais Practitioners or who use the registered trademark ‘Feldenkrais Method®’ without having graduated from a Feldenkrais Professional Training Program (FPTP) may be sued for misrepresenting themselves as Feldenkrais Practitioners.

achieve these results?

Increase your ease and range of motion, improve flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for pain-free and efficient movement.

The Feldenkrais Method® is based on the principles of physics, biomechanics and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. By expanding your self-image through movement sequences that bring attention to the parts of the self outside of your awareness, the Method enables you to include more of yourself in your functioning movements.

You become more aware of unhelpful habitual movements and patterns and expand options for new ways of moving. By increasing your attention to how you move your body, the Feldenkrais Method® assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently and comfortably.
